Best sports city?
Submitted by Michael Fielding on Thu, 06/12/2008 - 4:12pm.
Chicago native Gene Wojciechowski and ESPN.com's senior national columnist says that Chicago - not New York, not Dallas, not even Boston - is America's best sports city ... sort of.
He never says "best." Instead he points to all the "weirdness" that has surrounded a host of the city's professional sports teams lately.
Still, I'd argue that it is the best, with the successes of the Sox and Cubs, the young and upcoming talents on the Blackhawks (not to mention that both Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are both up for NHL rookie of the year tonight), the Calder Cup champion Wolves, the city's status as a finalist as an Olympic host city.
What do you think? Sure Cedric Benson's an idiot, and Doug Collins may have been the best thing for the Bulls, but really - is there a better sports city?
Comment: I also like going to High

Currently, I'm surprised Chicago was voted number one because of the success Boston has had in the last year. The Red Sox won the World Series, the Patriots were one game away from finishing undefeated (a feat that only one other team had ever accomplished) and the Celtics are one game away from winning their 17th World Championship.
But for atmosphere, fan support and intelligence, Chicago is the best.
I'm especially surprised ESPN, known for being bias toward the east coast picked Chicago, a city they often pick on.
