Sewer Backups - Anyone else having problems?

Have had my basement flooded 5x in the last 30-40 days due to sewer backup.
City inspectors found that the company paid to line the sewers sprayed debris in the line cementing the obstruction in place.
When I went to mt.greenwood hardware (excellent people/place btw) to buy a check valve the guy told me he could've sold a hundred this month.
Additionally, during the last rainstorm when I raced to the Alsip Home Depot to get a utility pump it was like a neighborhood party.
Did they screw up everyone or just our block?
I live on Albany as well. Got flooded in 2010 and now today. I'm so frustrated and furious I don't know what to do. Any suggestions or help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated!!
Yikes!! Live on Albany also, and have flooded 3 or 4 times, This in the past month too....latest at least 6 inches deep...Havent had a problem in years..... Now what do I do????
If your water is coming out of the floor drains or a drain in the outside basement stairwell, call the Chicago dept. of water management and ask them how to schedule an inspection.
If the sewer is backed up your drain tiles and gutters will not drain and the water may appear to be entering the basement where the floor meets the wall.

From what I understand, most of Mount Greenwood between Kedzie and the tracks has had major flooding problems this summer.
The worst was the sudden storm at the end of June. Dozens of people told me directly that they had anywhere from 2 to 6 inches in their basements after the storm sewer system backed up.
One week later a contractor was seen cleaning the sewers, but I haven't heard anything since.
I'll keep checking with the alderman's office and the Water Dept.
Meanwhile, keep up the posts. Let your neighbors know how much of a problem this really is.

I also live on Albany and while my wife and I were on our honeymoon last June (late June) we came home to a foot and a half of water in our basement. We lost so much in the flood and we had never flooded before. I lived here 5 years and the previous owners for 15 years and they never flooded.
We are about to finish our basement and work on the plumbing, but wondering if anyone made any progress with calling the City Water Mgmt. Dept.

Mt Greenwood 109th 3200 block basement sewer back up black muck!! Third time in four years --44 year residentof Mt Greenwood!!! June 8 2011
We live on Drake and we got about 2 ft of black muck and sewer backup this morning. We have Kennedy Sewer come out and they did alot of work for us and never flooded again, except for today. What is going on? three more houses I know of had a swmming pool even on St.Louis.
It occurred to me that when folks put in new driveways and fill their yards with patios and cement rather than keeping it all grass and green, where then is the water supposed to go when it rains? It can no longer absorb into the ground. It ends up flooding either your neighbor's yard/basement or runs down to the street sewer overwhelming it, so you end up with a backup in your basement floor drain. this is why permits are required before folks begin putting in new driveways and cement. where do they think all the water is supposed to go? it will either go in someone else's basement or overload the street sewer, but no one ever thinks twice about how they are overloading the sewer and i wonder if most of them even know they are required to obtain a permit to put in a cement driveway????
