MPA music students hit high notes

Twenty one Morgan Park Academy lower and middle school students participated in 29 musical events at the Illinois Grade School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Contest Feb. 24 in Plainfield, Ill. The contest involved students from 20 schools (mostly middle schools) performing in more than 950 different musical events.
The participants performed for music specialists who served as judges for the contest. Students were evaluated on their performance in a variety of categories, such as intonation, rhythmic accuracy and tone quality and received a rating in each category.
Those points are totaled to determine a rating from Division I (highest) to Division III. The students received a comment sheet from the judge with observations and suggestions for improvement as well as a corresponding medal or ribbon.
