Jones heads to Cincinnati

And so the story continues for Demetrius Jones, the former Morgan Park star who started at quarterback in the Notre Dame season-opener but subsequently lost the job to Jimmy Clausen following the worst opening loss in Irish history (Georgia Tech trounced ND 33-3).
Jones, who was granted a release from his scholarship Sept. 21 to play for any team that will not be an opponent of Notre Dame during the course of his eligibility (which runs through 2010), enrolled Thursday at No. 24 Cincinnati.
Jones decided to enroll the day after attending a practice with the 4-0 Bearcats, who are in the national rankings for the first time since 1967.
Speculation about his second life as an NCAA QB led some local sports writers to think he'd head to Northwestern or Ohio State. He also was expected to enroll at Northern Illinois University, where he allegedly had attended class last week.
The NCAA requires that a player must be enrolled prior to the 12th day of classes to be eligible for the next season. Cincinnati didn’t start classes until last week.
But Thursday's decision to enroll at Cincinnati, where he's expected to run the team's spread offense next season, ended all that speculation.
