Elementary school students get antsy this time of year. The prospect of a carefree summer lies just ahead with thoughts of vacation, sleepovers and long, warm days. For the students at Clissold Elementary School, 2350 W. 110th Place, that warm spring weather had been bordering on the unbearable.

So about four years ago, when those long, warm days caused the adjacent asphalt lot to heat up the classrooms beyond the usually tolerable comfort level, Kathy Figel stepped in to soften up the area
